Ex-teacher: Rape Victim Had Sex Fantasies

A former teacher of a private school, who was last month ordered to enter his defence on two counts of raping an 11-year-old Singaporean student, told the Sessions Court here yesterday the alleged victim had written about having sex with her imaginary friend in a book.

“She was talkative and liked to fantasise. One time she wrote in a book about her imaginary friend Bob having sex with her on the roof,” said the former teacher.

The accused said this when asked by his counsel Hairul V Othman during examination-in-chief to describe the character of the alleged victim.

He took the book from the girl and scolded her, he told the court.

The girl had also told him how she kissed her boyfriend, he said.

To another question, he said he did not bother about what the girl told him as most of them were merely her fantasies.

The ex-teacher was testifying in his defence before Judge Duncan Sikodol against the two rape charges under Section 376(2)(e) of the Penal Code.

He was ordered on Oct 22 to enter his defence after the court ruled that the prosecution had established a case against him on both charges, each of which carries a jail term of between five and 30 years and whipping.

The first count accuses him of raping the girl in the school’s science laboratory store between 2.10pm and 3.30pm from February to March this year.

He also allegedly raped the girl at the same place at 10.25am on March 26.

The ex-teacher was however acquitted and discharged from another charge of raping the girl and two other charges of committing carnal intercourse against the order of nature by sodomising and forcing the girl to perform oral sex on him.

Duncan ruled then that the prosecution had failed to establish a case against the accused on all the three charges.

Earlier in his testimony yesterday, the accused told the court that on March 26 this year, the alleged victim came into the science laboratory during rest time.

He asked her about the rumours of them having a relationship but she said she did not know anything.

After that, the accused said he heard someone knocking on the front door and the girl went out after opening the door.

“When I went to the door, I saw teacher Mahani and teacher Stella standing in front of the door and smiling cynically. I told them nothing happened,” the accused said.

He told the court he did not know why the girl went to the laboratory but added that it was routine for students to meet him to seek assistance on their academic problem or other matters.

“A week after that, the headmistress called me up due to a report of the incident which happened on March 26. Also present were teachers Rahman and Clare and the mother of the alleged victim,” he said.

Meanwhile, during cross-examination by deputy public prosecutor Luke Ressa Balang, the accused agreed that he had sent messages to the alleged victim through Facebook website but not in a frequent manner.

He, however, disagreed that he used to sleep in the laboratory and that Mahani had seen his mattress there.

During re-examination-in-chief by Hairul, the accused said he disagreed with the prosecution’s suggestion that it was impossible for a student at the age of 11, such as the alleged victim, to have imagination about sex.

“I even saw them surfing pornographic in the computer room. They also used improper words in their conversation and some of them talked about sex and for them it was normal,” he said.

Meanwhile, defence witness, teacher Carmen Alice Jayasuria during cross-examination said the headmistress had seen the accused on a number of occasions about his immature behaviour with the female students.

“While the boys were playing basketball, the girls were playing with the accused. They were touching him, climbing on him and running after him and this is something he allowed them to do,” Carmen said adding that such behaviour was inappropriate.

Duncan set Nov 8, this year for both parties to submit their submissions before he decides on the case on Nov 10.

DPP Raja Zaizul Faridah Raja Zaharuddin also appeared for the prosecution while counsel PJ Perira is holding a watching brief for the alleged victim’s family.
